Hybrid: Since I can view lectures on Zoom, will lectures be recorded?
No. This class may be Zoom enhanced, but it is not hybrid. Zoom is used as a substitute for a smart board.
When: When is XYZ due / happening? Will we have class on this day?
Please refer to Canvas and our syllabus. If the information is not there, then please then ask prof. winn.
Changing Sections: I would like to attend the other lab / workshop section, can I "mix and match" course sections?
To earn credit for class, you must regularly attend your enrolled section(s) with the assigned instructor.
If you find a student in prof. winn's course with your desired section who is willing to swap both lab and workshop with you for the entire semester, then you may let prof. winn know. (Both students must consent in writing.)
Allowed only during Week 1 - 2 in Fall / Spring / Summer and Week 1 in Winter.
Permission Numbers: I want to enroll in a section. Can I have a permission number?
Waitlisted: Permission numbers will be distributed in order of waitlist number and class participation as space permits.
Not Waitlisted: Permission numbers will be distributed in order of written (email) contact and class participation as space permits.
Note: Waitlisted students will have priority over students not on the waitlist.

Late Assignments: Can I submit an assignment late?
Late lab assignments are generally accepted with a small deduction (if prof. winn is your lab instructor).
ALEKS Homework is regularly due on on the days mentioned on ALEKS and Canvas. There will be a few extension opportunities for credit announced during lecture and/or workshop.
Late submissions are not accepted for extra credit opportunities.
Lab: Do I need to submit prelabs and wear proper PPE?
Yes. Students must submit prelabs before lab and wear proper PPE in order to participate in lab.
Workshop: I missed all or part of a workshop. What should I do?
If you are late to workshop, you will be eligible to earn most points and will earn full credit for submitting that week's completed workshop within 48 hours via Canvas Message.
If you miss workshop, make plans to complete the workshop during Student Hours or another Workshop section that week for credit.
Note: You will only be allowed to make up 2 unexcused workshops for the course.
Missed Exams: I missed an exam. What should I do?
Excused: All exams are in-person and must be taken at their scheduled time(s). If you know that you must miss and exam, please let prof. winn know with at least 7 days advanced notice. Your "make up exam" options will be:
taking an exam different than the one given that semester, and you may view but not keep the exam, or
the average of the other two midterm exams, or
the same score as your final exam.
Unexcused: Per the syllabus, unexcused exams will result in a zero score for that exam.
Retakes: I did not do well on Quiz / Exam #. Can I retake it?
There are no Quiz retakes; make sure to come prepared and study off workshops and assigned homework.

Incomplete: I do not like my grade. Can I receive an Incomplete?
Incomplete grades will not be offered except under extreme and unforeseen circumstances.
Grade Bumps: I currently have a ## %, can you bump me to an X?
Final letter grades are assigned only after the Final Exam. Grade bumps are considered within 0.5%.
"Tentative" letter grade are available after Exam 1. Please speak with prof. winn if you have any grade concerns.

You may call me prof. winn, and my preferred gender pronouns are he/him/his.
Please do not call me Mr., Sir, or Winn.
Syllabus: Will you ever deviate from the syllabus?
The syllabus will be accurate and up-to-date with little deviation.
The syllabus may be seen as a "contract" for the course which states the guidelines for which you will be assessed.
Textbook: Do I need buy a physical textbook for this class?
A physical textbook is not required, but it is strongly encouraged for your learning.
Note that some quiz and exam problems may come from the textbook.
Materials: What materials do you suggest for this class?
The usuals: pencil, pens, erasers, scientific calculator (non-graphing).
The extras: highlighters, colored pens, sticky notes.
Student Hours: What do I do during Student Hours?
Student Hours are a time where you can get individualized help or tips and tricks for any of the course concepts.
Student Hours are also a time where you can get to know your professors a little more, but try to keep conversations as close as possible to course content.
Letter of Recommendation: I really enjoyed learning with you. May I have a letter of recommendation?

have earned an A or B, and/or
had quality learning moments or contributions in the classroom.
